NewCrits Talk Fall Series
NewCrits is excited to announce the return of its monthly artist talk series. This season's series kicks off September 23rd with Raúl de Nieves, a multimedia artist, performer, and musician whose wide-ranging practice investigates notions of beauty and transformation. de Nieves’ visual symbolism draws on both classical Catholic and Mexican vernacular motifs to create his own unique mythology. Through processes of accumulation and adornment, the artist transforms readily available materials into spectacular objects, which he then integrates into immersive narrative environments. His work is currently on view at Pioneer works for the exhibition, In Light of Innocence, marking de Nieves’s first solo institutional show in New York City.

We host in-person Artist Talks at WSA in New York. Unlike traditional lectures, these talks aren’t just about showing slides or reviewing a career trajectory—they’re about opening up the artist’s process, influences, struggles, and ideas in a candid way. It’s not about polished answers, but about honest, generous conversation that helps other artists grow.
